In our continued series celebrating African women achieving high in tech, business, and other related fields, our woman of the day today is Hazel Apondi.
Describing herself as highly motivated and a skilled Data analyst, Hazel Apondi is not your ordinary tech enthusiast. The JKUAT graduate is a great lover of creative writing and has several self-published short stories, and it is through the art of story-telling that she has built her career around.
Hazel earned her Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science from the prestigious Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). Following her graduation, and with an appreciation for knowledge acquisition, coupled with her data-driven mindset, Hazel has used her dynamic range of skills across various industries in an illustrious career, spanning from banking, insurance, FMCG and startups.
In all these industries, she proved valuable in her ability to provide insight into complex databases, and her creative writing and proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Excel and Tableau have strengthened her ability to communicate her data findings very effectively. Additionally, her ability as a communicator has enabled Hazel to build strong professional relationships while also marking her out as an outstanding team player but also as a great leader, as was seen during her tenure as a Marketing Executive at Identigate Integrated Solutions.
As the saying goes, ‘learning never stops’ and for Hazel, this has never been a truer statement. Hazel has continually engaged in research throughout her career, reading books to enhance not just her knowledge in data but also in creative writing, and has continually kept up to date with industry trends in whatever industry she has been in. The combination of creativity and critical thinking has enabled her to approach the challenges she faces both creatively and analytically. There is no doubt that for Hazel, there is no limit to what she can achieve, and through it all, we can be sure that she will be creative and critical in all she does.
