Having a cool website design is definitely one way to get people to visit and stay on your site, but when it comes to being ranked higher on Google search, you need to do more.

So, how do you do this? Well, read on as we look at how your website can rank higher on Google search.

Improve the on-site SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of taking steps that help your content or page rank higher on Google.

One of the ways to do this is through the use of keywords. Your website can rank a lot higher when you learn to use words that many people use to search in relation to your product or service.

So, for example, if your website is a lifestyle website, find the keywords associated with lifestyle. These keywords will then guide you on how to write your articles. Remember also to always have the keyword at the top of the page. On the title and in the first paragraph.

However, as you do that, avoid keyword stuffing.

Use latent semantic indexing (LSI) keywords

Aside from having a keyword for your article, to rank higher on Google, try to find other words which are conceptually related to your website’s keyword. These words help the search engine algorithm understand the page content better by adding context and thus, connecting the copy to the target word. These are what we call Latent Semantic Indexing keywords (LSI).

So, once again, for example, you run a lifestyle and fashion blog. The LSI keywords for this could include style, clothing, casual wear, trendy, glamorous, stylish, handbags, fashion sense, etc. What these words do is to confirm to the Google SEO algorithm that the content is indeed about the keyword.

Update content regularly

Once you have a hang of your SEO keywords, ensure that you are consistent in your content uploads. Regular update of content is a good indicator of the relevancy of the site.

Coupled with the keywords, you can be sure that your website will rank higher with regular uploads.

Add links to authoritative sites

Google often tries to rank websites higher based on how authoritative and content-rich they are.

In order to prove that your website is authoritative, linking to other websites helps visitors to your site learn more about what they are interested in. This helps build your credibility, meaning that the visitors will become regular on your page since they know they can get more than what they came for.

Add these links to descriptive words related to the link.

Ranking higher on Google is often a long process, but you will definitely see an improvement in visits if you apply the above.
