Google Photos is one of the best features for media file storage, helping us store images for future memories while also helping us free up memory spaces on our phones. However, it also allows you to edit images and videos.

Since its revamping in 2015 from Google+ Photos, Google Photos has evolved into a complex photo editor too. Below are some hacks on how to edit photos on the app (note that some features here are available only upon subscription to Google One).

Enhancing Photos

If you have a budget phone struggling with low-light photography, then Google Photos is here to help:

  1. Launch Google Photos and select the image you want to enhance.
  2. Tap Edit at the bottom.
  3. There will come several suggestions, such as Enhance, Dynamic, Color Pop, and such.
  4. Click Enhance and let Google do the rest. However, select Color Pop if you want to enhance the colors.

Google Filters

Filters are now a norm for many gallery apps. On Google Photos, here is how to use them:

  1. Open the Google Photos editing menu and select the photo.
  2. Scroll at the bottom to the left to find the Filters
  3. Select from the available filters what you want to use. You can tap on the filter and check the preview before applying. Note that you can tap on the filter button to reduce intensity since they are set at 100% intensity.

Crop or Rotate an Image

  1. Open the image in Google Photos and tap Edit.
  2. Select Crop. You will then get a menu with a rectangle icon, a rotate icon as well as a third icon. Tap the rectangle to get available crop aspect ratio options.
  3. If you want to crop manually, select the third icon after the rotate icon.
  4. If you want to rotate, select the icon with a small square and an arrow curving counterclockwise.

You can also find more useful editing tools such as Blur, Magic Eraser, Color Focus and Portrait Light by click on Tools menu once you select the image.
