The Amahoro Coalition is a Kenyan-based, African-led initiative that aims to advance the economic inclusion of refugees.
The initiative convenes multi-sector actors from all over the continent to catalyze the leadership in the private sector to drive interventions that will advance the economic inclusion of many displaced people.
The Amahoro Coalition believes that the African private sector has a unique and yet important role to play in helping refugees settle and unlock their full potential. The coalition acts as a bridge between the private sector and the refugees. Indeed, Amahoro was formed as a home-based solution when it was realized that the African private sector was willing to support refugees achieve their economic potential, but only lacked the framework – there were no structures to facilitate the support to refugees.
Thus, Amahoro was created with a mission to engage and indeed, enable the African private sector to expand refugee access to education and livelihood opportunities. They would do all this while also providing value for the African businesses and by and large, the society.
Their vision is for refugees to lead lives as any other person would, a life of dignity, a life where they have a chance to achieve their full potential. That way, it would pave the way for more inclusive development and peace across the continent.
