Summary

  • Google set to launch Bard
  • Bard will be a high-profile chatbot like ChatGPT
  • The A.I is currently undergoing testing

As anticipated, 2023 is shaping up to be a great year for A.I technology after Google announced its own A.I, Bard, to compete with the runaway ChatGPT.

On Monday, February 6, Google announced that Bard was set to undergo testing and would be launched for public use in the coming weeks.

Power and Intelligence

According to Google, Bard will seek to combine the breadth of the world knowledge with creativity, power and intelligence.

“It draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses. Bard can be an outlet of creativity, and a Launchpad for curiosity, helping you to explain new discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn more about the best strikers in football right now, and then get drills to build your skills,” Google and Alphabet CEO, Sundar Pichal, said in a press release about Bard.

Bard will be powered by Google’s own language model, LaMDA, or Language Model for Dialogue Application, but will run on a small but powerful version of the model. The company said that the A.I chat bot will undergo rigorous testing to meet “a high-bar for quality, safety and groundedness in real-world information”

Evolution of Chatbots

Google’s announcement comes just days after Open A.I, the company behind ChatGPT, released ChatGPT Plus, a faster and more responsive version of their A.I. Open A.I is currently backed by Microsoft, which itself has planned to integrate ChatGPT into its search engine, Bing.

The evolution of chatbots is now see as the next major step in technological advancement. Even as tech companies continue to work harder to make the chatbots more discerning, rather than simply replicate what has previously been written, as ChatGPT has been prone to do.
