Challenges and difficulties in life are inevitable. At one point of your life, you will encounter them. Needless to say, they may drain you and suck out positivity out of you. Even if they are expected, they still have impact. How then can we remain positive? Here are some tips on how to remain Positive amidst difficulty.

Count your blessings

When you are going through rough patches, it helps to see the blessings around you. Remember the song “Count Your blessings name them one by name……” You make indeed be surprised by the blessings that are around you. Begin to notice them and to be aware of them.

This could be as simple as the gift of life, a roof over your head, food in your stomach, family, friends, ability to read this article( Sense of sight). Additionally, sunlight, rain and even the ability to feel all the emotions you are experiencing. Once we start to recognise our blessings our focus and attention shifts and we are able to elevate our spirits.

Choose gratitude

Gratitude is the quality of being thankful, to show appreciation and return kindness. It is a great tool in enhancing relationships as it shows openness and connection. Additionally, Gratitude brings joy and happiness.

Therefore one of the tips on how to remain Positive amidst difficulty is choosing to show gratitude. You can show gratitude by appreciating yourself, those around you, nature and to God. It not only brings some positive vibes but also leads to enhanced well-being and better physical and mental health.

Stay social

Staying social can help you remain positive. While not taking away all your free time to engage in social activities, be sure to engage. Meeting other people is therapeutic.

You can choose to spend time with friends, family, colleagues or even strangers. Being around people you love especially will brighten your moods, reduce stress, create a sense of belonging and reduce the possibility of high blood pressure. You can engage in activities with the people you love for example games, going for a walk, talking, cooking, simply enjoying the company of people.

Exercise and/or Get out

One of other tips on how to remain positive amidst difficulty is exercise or simply getting out of the house. Get out, go for a walk, a run, a swim. Take your pet out on a longer walk if you have one. It helps to find a place with a sense of nature, with trees and birds. Take in the fresh air as you are outside.

Exercise is great because it leads to the release of endorphins. Endorphins are said to trigger positive feelings in the body similar to Morphines. Exercise is able to boost your self esteem and cab anxiety and depression.

Unplug

Give back

While giving back to others may be the least things you wish to do during difficulties, it can indeed shift your paradigm. The fact that you are finding it difficult means that you are not the only one. Other people around you may be experiencing what you are going through.

The best thing would be for you to give back. Give what you have, if you have time give it by visiting the orphans, street kids, widows and the vulnerable in the society. Speak to them help them with some chores perhaps. Alternatively, Choose to give a donation of you can to a reputable charity around you. Optionally, Visit the ward for sick children and spend time with them offering care and support.

Do something you enjoy doing

There are things that you like to do, you enjoy to do. It may be gardening, cooking, drawing, painting, running. The best time to engage in things you enjoy doing is in difficult moments.

They help you to immerse yourself and engage. This leads to calmness and reduces levels of stress. Taking long drives or visiting your family could also be things you enjoy to do. If you are not aware what you like, perhaps it is time to explore and search.

Express your feelings

Another great tip while going through difficulties is learning to express your feelings. There are various ways that you can express your feelings. You can write about, journal on it. Journaling helps you to think through what is happening as well as process it.

If you find it easy to talk, you can find someone to speak to. It can be a family member, a friend or a professional(counsellor). They will listen to you and help you process what is going on. Of importance is not to bottle up the issues, instead express them.

Revisit your Purpose

On top of the above tips, learn to revisit your purpose in life. Your purpose is your anchor. It will help you remain grounded through the difficult times. Purpose shows you the bigger picture and gives you the reason to keep holding on.

Importance of having a vision or a purpose in life include getting inspiration and motivation. Therefore, what better way to remain positive than revisiting your life Purpose.
