Ways to Decompress After High Stress

In the busy life that we live these days, it is easy to forget just how important it is to decompress and de-stress. We will often forget how to decompress and distress, to begin with.

But worry not. In this article, we look at ways to relax after a day of high stress.

Take deep breaths

The first thing to do after experiencing a high-stress situation is to try to calm yourself down. And you will do this by taking deep breathing exercises.

Find a quiet and comfortable place, then take a deep breath in. Imagine all your negative feelings – anger, sadness, anxiety, fear. Imagine them gathering in your abdomen as you breathe in. Hold that breath for a few seconds. Now, begin to breathe out slowly, and as you breathe out, imagine you are exhaling all those negative feelings.

Repeat this exercise as many as 10 times each day. You will find that you become calmer each day.

Take a walk

It is surprising just how a regular walk can effectively make you feel better. Walking around your block, or in nature, it doesn’t matter. Regular walks for about 20 minutes a day have been shown to reduce stress in people.

Walking allows you to let go of the tension in your body, and it also helps you refocus, especially when combined with –

Going outdoors

Simply getting out of the building into nature is a great way to decompress after a long day. You could take a swim or simply start gardening or find a nice place in nature where you can just sit and not think too much.

Nature helps us align our vibrations with the world around us, making us feel much more spiritually connected to the environment and, thus, experience less stress.

Take a warm bath

Once you are through with your walks or exercises, soak yourself in a warm bath or take a hot shower. A warm bath or hot shower helps soothe your muscles, especially if you make it a therapy bath, and calms you down.

Journal

Finally, one of the best and most effective ways to sort through your feelings is journaling. Your journal helps you write down your feelings, thus, providing an avenue for you to process and release them. This way, you understand yourself better and do not become consumed with stress.

Decompression is a very important part of the modern world, and I hope you take it seriously just as you take your career.
