“Your energy in the morning is a clean slate, and you get a chance each day to build it up the way you want” – Mridula Singh

Avoid phones and screens when you wake up

Phones and laptops create instant distraction and entertainment. They create distractions to your emotions and lead to increased stress and anxiety.

This affects you even sub-consciously because you are being bombarded by other people’s lives and ideas being pushed towards you. A good morning routine involves your own personal space without influence of social media or the anxiety that comes from notifications and pop-ups.

Allow yourself sanity and cut on the distractions especially in the morning.

Plan

A good morning routine sets the tone for the rest of your day. Therefore, this means that it is a great time to plan how your day is going to be.

Most Importantly, List out the activities that you are going to do and allocate the time for them as well. Additionally, planning will keep you focused, boost productivity and enhance your sense of success and achievement.

Moreover, a plan can help you measure your efficiency throughout your day.

Maintain a fixed time

While it may not be easy, try to maintain a fixed time. It is a habit that you should consider growing and is one of the steps to build a good morning routine. The body’s internal system becomes acquainted to the schedule you keep.

A specific time relaxes you and further eases your ability to go into the day prepared. Besides, a specific schedule reduces the decisions you need to make in the morning because you know already the routine you have.

Get out of bed and make it

Hitting snooze is tempting and happens mostly when we don’t get the recommended enough sleep. It is thus paramount to ensure you get enough sleep to build a good morning routine.

Try getting out of bed immediately your alarm clock rings. Get up and make your bed. This psychologically prepares and tells your head that indeed the day has started.

Making the bed creates a sense of organisation, relaxation and improves focus.

Do something you like

While working out is great, while drinking lemon water is amazing, while listening to a podcast is great, choose what you like. Choose to do something you like in the morning that creates momentum for you. It is better if it something that you like and enjoy.

If you like a specific genre of music, listen to it. If drawing, draw, read a book, walk your dog, meditate ,pray and/or run. Do that which makes you feel most alive. It will make you happier and boost your energy levels as you start your day.

Consistency

Consistency is the difference between failure and success. It is indeed the deal breaker. To maintain a solid morning routine there is therefore need for consistency.

It gets tough before it gets better. Keep at it! Don’t give up!

“Part of courage is simple consistency.” – Peggy Noonan
