How to Fix Common Crashing Problems on your Mac or Windows PC

There is nothing quite as frustrating as a computer that won’t just stay on. Owning a computer, especially a laptop, often comes with the downsides of it crashing from time to time. This becomes even more frustrating when there is no obvious diagnosis – like an obvious external physical damage.

So, what happens if your PC keeps crashing. Here is how to check it.

Mac

Macbooks are often quite reliable and will rarely crash if not for major faults or failures. Before taking your crashing Mac to the technician, however, here is how you can fix some of its problems.

Apple diagnostics

Apple diagnostics helps determine if there is a hardware fault responsible for the frequent crashing. Here is how to go about it.

  1. Remove any external devices except for Ethernet connection, mouse and AC power.
  2. Restart the Mac and as you do so, press the D key. This will bring an Apple Diagnostic screen when the laptop restarts.
  3. This Apple Diagnostic will check your laptop. Once identified, then choose the next step. This could be taking it to be fixed, or simply restarting.

However, if the laptop hardware is okay, then consider deleting some recently installed programs and apps. Alternatively, run an antivirus scan to see of the culprit could be a virus.

Windows PC

Windows PCs crashing will often be due to some common culprits like CPU overheating, power supply or display issues. Another common problem also occurs when the software  incompatibility.

If your PC crashes when performing heavy tasks, that means that you could be pushing the PC too hard. Thus, to reduce instances of crashing, whenever the PC begins to warm up, cool it down by putting it to sleep.

Meanwhile, if the crashing problem started due to a new software update, then uninstalling the software update could solve the problem. This happens because the software is not compatible with the computer hardware. That is, if your computer is too old, it is less likely to run new software as new software often comes with high memory or any other new additions that old hardware cannot handle.

You can also check for vibrations during movement of the computer. Loose internal hardware can also cause the compute to crash. Thus, if your computer has severe vibrations from inside when shaken or moved, then have it checked immediately.

You could also try fixing your RAM to see if they are the culprits. Sometimes, a problematic RAM could be the reason of the crashing problems.
