When it comes to being a Business Leader, even the smallest decisions can have a big impact on your business. And one of the things about being an entrepreneur is that change is inevitable and thus, you will need to be decisive from time to time.
But as a leader, your decisiveness should be fair and balanced. In other words, it ought to be objective. Below, then, we look at ways in which you can make your decisiveness more objective.
Let go of emotions and ego
People will often make drastic decisions during heavy emotional moments, decisions that they then regret once the emotions fade and rationality sets in.
As a leader, identify your emotions at the moment you want to make a decision and ask yourself if your decision at that point is justified.
The same goes for ego. You should not maintain a bad position just because you think changing your decision is a sign of weakness.
Do due diligence
As a business leader, do due diligence before making any major decision that could impact the business greatly. Want to change your approach? Do market research. Learn from your peers and learn from your competitors.
Don’t make major decisions based on assumptions. Your business might be the best in making tasty hamburgers, but that doesn’t automatically mean that people will enjoy your new smoothies. Do due diligence before such major decisions.
Remember there are multiple ways out
Do not limit yourself to just one path. For a business to reach the desired outcome, there are several paths.
As a business leader, in order to be objective, always have your optimal path, but also remain open to using other paths to get to the same destination.
Consider other people’s perspective
This could either be your customer or even your employees. Everyone can contribute to improving how you make an objective decision. You might think you are being objective only for it to later emerge that you were biased but were blind to it.
Talk and listen to many people and find out how they think about a decision you want to take. That will give you the much-needed outsider’s perspective that will open your eyes to more possibilities and thus, improve your objectivity.
Remain curious
Always be willing to learn. Ask questions, both from people higher than you and your subordinates. You are a business leader but you do not know everything. So, always keep an open mind.
