Great Place to Work is a research and management consultancy organization which helps other organizations create qualities and behaviors that lead to great workplaces.
The research company has been on this field for the last 20 years and most recently, launched their mentorship programme aimed at women in tech.
Growing in Technology (GRIT) is a mentorship programme that aims to promote sharing of knowledge in the tech space. According to Great Place to Work, GRIT aims to fill more than the a third of women in technology, which they term as an under-representation.
“If technology is the primary catalyst for change in the world, then equal women representation in this sector is critical. We need the voice and perspective of women when solving today’s complex issues.” Says the organization on their website.
The organization says that it wants to change this under-representation of women in, not just tech, but across the whole STEM field.
How GRIT Works
GRIT mentorship programme operates differently from the rest. It aims to improve women representation in leadership positions and thus, is targeted towards mentoring women leaders who have no resources that other women leaders may have. GRIT then, selects up to 6 tech Best Workplaces to be part of the programme. Companies with strong women in tech program are considered.
Then, each company has to nominate up to 5 women executives to act as mentors. These women need to have a desire to pay it forward and mentor up to 2 women over 12 months, spending at least 1 hour a month with each of their mentees.
Mentees should be people with a certain supervisory responsibility at their place of work.
Joining GRIT
Currently, GRIT is available for women in technology in Singapore and applications can be made by scrolling down to the bottom of the webpage for an application form. However, as part of the Great Place to Work Organization, the programme could become accessible to more women outside Singapore in future.
